I assumed the charge of DG, SSB on 30 Sep 2017 with a great sense of humility and pride. It is a matter of great privilege and honour for me to lead a dedicated, professional and distinguished Central Armed Police Force like Sashastra Seema Bal.

It is heartening to know that SSB has metamorphosed from “Special Service Bureau” to “Sashastra Seema Bal” in a short span of time and the transition process remained very smooth. The SSB is mandated to guard Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Borders. It is also entrusted with the responsibility to counter Left Wing Extremism in the states of Bihar, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand and for Internal Security duties in J & K. SSB is a force to reckon with and is serving in all these theatres with a spirit of diligence, professionalism and highest standard of discipline.

SSB has been given a special task of guarding and managing open and porous Borders which projects problems of a complex nature. On the one hand we have to secure the territorial integrity of the country & on the other we also have to maintain a very cordial and friendly relationship with the border population. The charter of SSB bestows great onus that needs to be shouldered without any compromise on standards of performance the Nation expects from us.

I am aware that our personnel are working in difficult geographical terrain and remote locations. Therefore, welfare of SSB personnel will be my one of the important priorities. Rapid expansion of the force has led to deficiency of adequate infrastructure and therefore my impetus will be on strengthening the basic infrastructural needs of the Force especially at BOPs and Battalions.

New initiatives in modernization and capacity building of the force are already underway. It is required to constantly upgrade our training, logistics, mobility, administration etc so that we are able to effectively respond to the emerging security challenges. We should gear up to become a truly modern, responsible and dependable Border Guarding Force of the country. We all should direct our collective efforts to take the organization to new heights of glory.

I also urge all the officers and men of the force to initiate and maintain healthy inter personal relationship. It will be my expectation, especially from the supervisory officers to take care of the men under their command and give them a good leadership in all aspects of functioning. They should involve themselves not only in operations but also focus on creating better working conditions at the lowest level of functioning ie, the BOPs.

I am confident that we will be meeting all the challenges in the best possible manner to serve the Nation and will uphold our motto of "SERVICE, SECURITY AND BROTHERHOOD".
